Godfrey's Church |
Our hearts were so saddened when we received the news earlier this year that the church we were building in Rwanda had collapsed. Godfrey, our African son who grew up in our first orphanage in Uganda, was in tears and overwhelmed with grief when he called minutes after the collapse. We had worked so hard to raise the funds to build the church and the congregation had labored and prayed even harder. They were to start worshiping in the building in two weeks. When I was there in June I had to fight to keep back the tears when I saw the crumbled mess and could only imagine how that congregation felt, yet they were still rejoicing in the Lord, especially over the fact that no one was killed or injured. That same week a church in Uganda (not associated with CCC) had fallen and killed the pastor and eight people.
Various members of the team who had accompanied us ministered to the congregation and they were blessed by the spirit of the people. Our friends, Pastor & Mrs. Bill Webb were so touched by the situation that they and their church sent $6,000 as soon as they returned home.
I just received an email (with pictures attached) which shows what Godfrey and his people have accomplished with those funds. I was amazed and very pleased. They have worked extremely hard to salvage as many materials as possible from the collapsed building and are constructing a place for worship as well as a building to take care of the orphan children. They still need about $20,000 to finish the project. It is urgent that we get the building completed before the freezing rains come and damage what has already been done. Pray with us that God will provide so they can quickly finish the building.
