Growing up in a small town in middle Tennessee, I always loved when the late Syvelle Phillips and his wife Lovie (founder of God Loves Kids) visited our church. As I saw their love for God, compassion for people, and the impact they were making in countless lives across the world, I was inspired to do more. At the age of 18, I began sponsoring a child through God Loves Kids and when opening my first checking account that same year, was so excited that the first check I ever wrote was to help a little girl in India named Harika.
In 2010, at the age of 28, I had the amazing honor of traveling with God Loves Kids to Rwanda and Uganda, Africa. It’s hard to put into a few short words exactly how much that trip impacted my life. I left a portion of my heart in Africa, and I struggled with what I should do with all that I had seen, heard and experienced. In 2013, after a second trip to Africa with God Loves Kids, my husband and I knew that the Lord was leading us to pack up our belongings and move to Rockwall, Texas so that I could work full time with Lovie Phillips in the office of God Loves Kids.
It is an honor to work alongside such an amazing woman in a ministry that has been impacting generations for the past 41 years. I get the privilege of connecting children with their sponsors and reading stories of how helpless and needy children are transformed into dynamic young men and women who long to change their world.3
